Summer Breeze
Summer’s in full swing and motorsport calendars are filling up. There’s a good splattering of hillclimbs and club events out there. The Northern Rallysprint Series is about to kick off and there’s been plenty of spectating events already been, the Kumeu Hot Rod Show & the truck show in Bombay. Seems hardly fair having to choose from such a good spread if they’re on in the SAME WEEKEND.
Ideally events would be on every week/end consistently to allow one to get to choose fairly but I guess, you just gotta choose what ticks the box. The weathers been mint-ish, so whatever it is, it should be good.
Club life’s been ticking over in the holiday period & planning’s been churning along. Pukekohe Car Club’s got Motorkhanas, a rallysprint & some hillclimb events in the pipeline for 2025 that we’re stoked to be facilitating & bringing to our members. There’s been a truck load of planning already done for a North Waikato rally event that was scheduled for this year but actually – we’re not quite there yet & need to get the pillars laid firmly first. It’s pretty big running one of these things. The event stages blueprints are exciting & it’ll be good to get this one in the oven so we can shake and bake!
Get into it as we barrel into 2025, check out the local & out of town car scene & sample the many club events that are coming up – that is where it’s at.
I’ve just renewed a motorsport license & am reminded of all the benefits available as a MSNZ competitor/volunteer official license holder. Insurance, ferry travel, accom, go karting, Racetech products, fuel discounts – sweet! Take advantage of the offers & maximize the returns. Kudos to Motorsport NZ for partnering with a range of companies that add these benefits to license holders.
So, volunteers, there’s a lil somethin-somethin for you… next time you get asked to come volunteer at one of our events, check out Motorsport NZ < Officials < Roles
and the accredited motorsport volunteer roles listed.
There’s heaps of roles listed and equally a growing body of likeminded people, heaps of you. You help at our events and many are very good at what you do. We’re right behind supporting you, our volunteers, to see you grow and develop in your key set areas. Flick an email and register at volunteer@motorsport.org.nz and start being official, officials. It’s an awesome initiative and the army of registered volunteers is growing, you’re all a cool bunch.
Sign up, be recognized, get benefits, all while you spend time with your mates volunteering at motorsport events.
2025’s going to be a busy year and we’re seriously cranking ahead. Get the dial set in, get out and amongst the Summer sizzle.
President Ramblings Jan 25
Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all managed to get a good break. Same as most breaks I have, I try to get a bit of a roadie under the belt- with some of the most stunning roads out there waiting to be explored
We are now back into planning mode- it was a tough decision to pull the North Waikato Rally, but we are a very small team and felt even with the many kind offers of help, we would not be able to pull off a quality event.
So we are looking to run our Rally Sprint instead, and looking to do it on Ponganui Rd. We had hoped to use it before, but there was too much damage caused by the 2023 cyclones. It is great piece of road!
The team were pretty busy in November, with a group heading to Rally Whangarei to help and then, of course, the PCC Speed Weekend.
We changed up the Sunset Tarmac event, adding an extra couple of km’s to the end- featuring a pretty fast straight section before a nice twisty piece to finish, and it seemed to have been a popular addition.
And as always the Limestone Downs Gravel event was a hit, such a good piece of road.
Thank you to all those who helped out on one or both days, it was really appreciated. And again we were well looked after by our caterers both days!
Numbers were a bit down, but those that competed enjoyed themselves.
We have a very small committee who work hard to put events on. Being light on the ground as a team, it can be a struggle to get all the work done. We would really appreciate the support from others, either as a committee member or to help us run events and take some of the roles away from our hardworking team.
However, we will keep on trying to put on some good events this year, along with helping other Clubs with theirs.
I look forward to catching up with you all soon
So .. Events
Heaps of us have been out & about in event land.
8-11 Nov-24, Rally Whangarei as a volunteer… hmm not for the faint hearted with scary early starts & mammoth long days. There’s boy scout constructing tents, to technical timing gear wiring & set ups, right there in the thick of it though, as a PCC team volunteer effort, it rocked.
23-24 Nov-24, Port Waikato Speed Weekend, seriously cool with an extended tarmac stage & wicked fast & flowing gravel uphill. Why would you not? The tarmac fights with the gravel on who is best, the roads are just bloody beauty. Race, accom, beer yarns, race sandwich kinda weekend, its worth the trip & we’re aiming on being apart of the Motorsport NZ Hillclimb Champs in 25′
6 Feb-25, Waitangi Day .. fancy joining us for a motorkhana? It’s on & back at a local Clevedon stomping ground. Battle the cone zone & your mates PB with a variety of courses & enthusiasm. Check out the home page for event deets, cheap as chips & seriously fun. We’d love to see you there.
8 Mar-25, is rallysprint time but this year, we’re bringing a new road to the table. Ponganui Rd is old but new, it’s flippin fast & something flavoursome for our rallysprint appetite. It’s a rest for our fav Bothwell Loop & a chance to acquaint yourself with this fine beauty. Thank you to the local residents for their support, we look forward to settling at the start line of this 10km challenge!
Check out our Events listing page for all you may seek. It’s refreshed semi-often as it’s meant to encourage you to get race cars out of sheds. Rally, race, grasskhana, competition car or daily driver, check out what we got & we’re it’s at
