Clubs have even been nutting together and working on events collaboratively, this is a great step in the right direction. Working together builds better platforms and supporting each other allows the impossible to be possible. Evolution is a funny thing, its about adapting to the now, futureproofing for the then and keeping up with the pace as it takes dives and turns.

The motorsport community is strong, the turnout at the recent volunteers quiz fundraiser evening on 24-Aug at the Northern Sports Car Club brought in a pretty decent crowd. The night was split into 9 quiz groups, group 9 ‘the Jump Starts’ answered questions diligently and proudly came out trumps on the night, 5 PCC members sitting on the table with 2 other very smart cookies.

The club has its important AGM meeting coming up at the clubrooms next Wednesday 4-Sept, doors opening from 6:30pm. We’re really looking forward to seeing you there.

Presidents Ramble – August 2024

We are at the beginning of the new financial year for Pukekohe Car Club, and looking forward to another busy year ahead. Writing an annual report for the AGM is a time for reflection on the year that has been, and the achievements for the Club and its members.

We hope you can make the AGM on Wednesday 4^th September, so we can all celebrate the year that has been, and look to what is coming up for us. There was an email sent out to all members recently that has a number of attachments for the AGM including the annual financial statements, a nomination form for the committee, a quick survey and the draft Constitution- a rather daunting looking document, but we are legally required to update this.

If you might be interested in coming on the Committee, we would like to hear from you! It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the Organisation and events

Our Rally Committee has had their first meetings to begin pulling the event together for our Rally on March 8^th. A number of us have driven the stages to check them out- the roads look great and you can’t help but smile as you drive them, even at open road speed!

Thank you to Linden at Repco Pukekohe, they have come on board to sponsor our  Paul Crispe Memorial Motorkhana series. We have the three events over the coming months- 15^th September, 27^th October and 6^th February. We have limited numbers for the events, so if you are keen, get in early!

The weather again has made life difficult, with the cancellation of the Hoddle Rd Rally Sprint- hard call, but a good one, as the weather was nasty for the weekend- but thanks to Nikki and her team, there is a replacement in Maramarua Forest on September 29^th.

Planning is moving forward for Speed Weekend, which will have a few changes to the Tarmac day.  Hopefully it will make it even more interesting!

The Club has been working with the Waikato District Council on the Road Closure for Motorsport Policy that is up for renewal and have done a written submission for this and have a time for an oral submission- to ensure there is a good understanding of good practices of road closures carried out by all organisations- the Council and local Community Board understand what we do and fully support us- so we should be in a good place to carry on with what we do

15th Sept Motorkhana

Being held at the A&P Showgrounds top paddock, the same location as the last motorkhana. We had an awesome turn out last time, bring on the next one! Coe along and keep up the momentum so we keep running these events – they so cool.

29th Sept Maramarua Rally Sprint

This joint venture event with TVCC and SACC, has been retrospectively created in between all other events on the rally calendar, as this year has been incredibly difficult for the Series and we desperately needed one more rally sprint event for the points tables, and for our competitors. The roads are just prime, I have been, I have seen, so I can smash rumors of any rough roads. It’s a fairly fast and furious course and you won’t be disappointed, so get your entries in and support the clubs in the last Series rally sprint of the year.

27th Oct Motorkhana

The next motorkhana in our little series of motorkhana events. Let’s keep driving the momentum, this venue will have loads of space and will have all your favourite people. These events are perfect for those new to driving, so if you know someone who might benefit from some practice well away from a public road, no driver’s license necessary – just a whole bunch of supportive volunteers guiding drivers around driver training on the day.

Calendar – MotorSport New Zealand

Chief CRO, Tracey Stringer, and her team will be traveling to three locations around New Zealand to deliver face-to-face CRO training. All CROs are encouraged to attend at the nearest location.
 
Locations for the three training sessions are:

• Auckland on September 7, 2024
• Palmerston North on September 28, 2024
• Christchurch on October 12, 2024

Each training session will begin at approximately 9:30 am and wrap up by 3:00pm.

MotorSport New Zealand are hosting face-to-face training for Silver and Gold Clerks of the Course in August. Gold Clerk of the Course training day will be on Saturday, August 17^th and the Silvers will be the next day, Sunday, August 18^th from 9:30am until 4pm on both days.
 
The training will occur at the Miramar Links Conference Center in Wellington, next to the airport car park. 
 
If you are a Gold and cannot make the 17^th but can make the 18^th, or vice versa with Silver, you are welcome to attend the other session. If you can’t attend, please let Aaron in the office know: aaron@motorsport.org.nz
 
MotorSport New Zealand will assist in covering up to 50% of your travel costs to attend the training.

As the writer of this newsletter, I always resonate with this section and picture when I see it. I often grab a lot of sections from the MSNZ newsletters, trying to keep information topical for everyone. But this section, well this is kind of my story. I had an accident at last year’s HCC’s Ngutunui Road tarmac hillclimb, I dunno … 70kph head-on into a fairly solid clay bank. It’s the scenario when you rely heavily on the safety apparatus to do its job and keep you safe.

I always tighten my belts, then yank them down at the start line to make sure their tight for ‘the race’. My belts may have, over time, repositioned themselves more into diagram two above, without my realising. Upon impact of my accident, even with tightened belts, my head replicated a bowling ball projecting forward (with the weight of the helmet), my neck stretched so much, my head hit the steering wheel smashing the top visor of my helmet. The buckles of your harness are fairly blunt but when in the wrong position at speed in an accident scenario, they were like blades, severing the soft skin on my neck, a clean cut. My angel was looking out for me that day, I just missed the artery in my neck by mms but a slightly different scenario could have resulted in a very different outcome. Emphasis needs to go on checking your gear, check your harnesses and make sure they don’t sneak up just slightly as mine had…

I’m a bit Scottish as the saying goes (no offense to Scottish people) and don’t really like having to spend coin if I don’t have to. I didn’t have a HANS device on either, other very important piece of safety apparatus that stops the neck from whiplash. If you add in depreciation to ‘the purchase’ of safety gear for the years that you will use the pieces of equipment, it doesn’t actually cost that much for keep yourself as safe as you can be whilst out there racing.

I now have a pirate scar and am a champion for racer safety.

An Event Under a Different Umbrella

Landspeed New Zealand Association

Landspeed New Zealand Association has been running Landspeed Trials on Goudies Road, Reporoa for past 7 years, and they are welcoming PCC members to participate or spectate at our next event Saturday 30th November 2024.

Some of our Sponsors/partners is CRC, Kennards Hire, NZ Police, (they even have police participants) Mobicom & Starlink.

There are a few Auckland Porsche Club members participating, and there will be typical Supercars like McLarens, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati, to Club racers and Street cars, plus motorcycles.

There is only one vehicle running at a time and a limit of 45 participants.

They have free camping for participants with toilets and showers on the 4-acre laydown/pit area and a huge concrete apron for scrutineering.

Full emergency services are on hand at event, with NEMs Ambo, Doctor and a Paramedic, plus Rescue/marshals with full extraction equipment worth $60K.

Note: They are not affiliated to MSNZ, they have our own Vero Motorsport PL insurance. MNZ endorses the event.
